Latest Release of Avaya Aura® Application Server 5300 Approved by the Department of Defense

For Immediate Release: 3 December 2012

  • Avaya's AS 5300 server is the dominant WAN soft switch in the market certified for use in the Defense Switched Network.
  • New release of Avaya software for the AS 5300 enables secure, fixed, mobile and wireless access to voice, video calls, instant messaging and presence capabilities.
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Avaya today announced that the Department of Defense has approved the latest release of the Avaya Aura® Application Server 5300 (AS 5300) for use in the Defense Switched Network - the infrastructure delivering data and unified communications services worldwide for the Department of Defense and other federal agencies.

In 2009, the Avaya Aura® AS 5300 Release 2 became the first Multifunction Soft Switch and Wide Area Network (WAN) Soft Switch approved for the backbone of the defense network, and it retains that unique distinction today. It is highly scalable and reliable, and it uses advanced encryption techniques to support voice, video, messaging, conferencing, and other unified communications applications.

Release 3 of the AS 5300 has been tested for compliance with the rigorous information assurance and interoperability requirements of the Department of Defense. It is now approved as a WAN Soft Switch with an integrated Local Session Controller and as a standalone Local Session Controller for survivable, base-level communications.

Pending final testing and verification, Release 3 of the Avaya Aura® AS 5300 can also serve as an Enterprise Session Controller for the delivery of unified communications capabilities over a private, hosted cloud to warfighters at remote military bases.

There are a number of new features incorporated into AS 5300 Release 3, including new mobility tools that enable military personnel working remotely or on a wireless network to securely access voice, video calls, instant messaging and presence tools and collaborate with colleagues around the globe. In addition, new routing capabilities allow individuals to be reached through a single number, even when they are working remotely with a mobile phone or tablet device.

Certification testing for Release 3 of the Avaya Aura Application Server 5300 was conducted by the U.S. Joint Interoperability Test Command using Department of Defense Unified Capabilities Requirements 2008, Change 3.
